Role-Playing Cards - Visits – English offer students the opportunity to practice preparing day trips and outings. They learn how to contact various tourist information offices to gather information about interesting cities, special places, and activities. They practice asking questions about what to do, from famous attractions to hidden gems that they shouldn't miss.
Students learn to ask questions about sights in cities, museums, nature parks, historical monuments, and islands like the Wadden Islands in the Netherlands. They can inquire about what is worth visiting, when locations are open, what the entrance fees are, and if there are any special events taking place. Additionally, they discover which regions or places are special and can compare what different cities have to offer.
The role-plays also include comedic situations to teach students how to respond flexibly to unexpected events. For example, a student travels specifically to the Markiezenhof in Bergen op Zoom, a historical museum, only to find out due to a mistake from the tourist information office that the museum is closed that day. In another scenario, they plan a trip to Texel, but upon arriving at the ferry, they find out it's broken. They cannot cross to the island that day and must figure out how to deal with this situation.
With these exercises, students learn to ask questions and gather information about their destination. They practice staying patient and clear in conversations, even when something goes wrong. These situations also help them politely ask for solutions in case of misunderstandings or errors by an information employee. Through these role-plays, they develop skills in trip preparation, questioning, and dealing with unexpected problems.
